Pulmonis Learning Project
Project Overview:
The Percussion and Palpation and the Artificial Airways modules are advanced eLearning modules that were developed as part of the Pulmonis Learning Project. They aimed to prepare respiratory therapists for their CRT and RRT exams administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Challenge:
Pulmonis' Data revealed a consistent trend of respiratory therapists missing the passing threshold by 15 points or less on their board exams.
Solution:
To address this challenge, a comprehensive series of modules was created with content structured around the areas where learners commonly lose points. These modules contain:
Essential Recap Video: high-impact videos designed for learners needing a rapid review before the exam. It presents the must-know information in a clear and memorable format.
Self-paced learning module: Interactive, asynchronous modules enables learners to explore core content at their own pace while maintaining a structured curriculum plan.
Scenario-based knowledge checks: Exam-aligned questions allow learners to reinforce their learning to ensure retention throughout the course. Immediate feedback is given to help learners gauge their understanding of the material.
Results and Impact:
Initial testing with pilot groups revealed a marked improvement in learner confidence in palpation and percussion as well as artificial airway management techniques. The scenario-based checks and essential recap video were key contributors to retention and understanding. Preliminary performance data shows an average increase in scores of over 15 points, effectively closing the previous gap.

Motivational Interviewing Course
Project Overview:
This Motivational Interviewing course was designed for the Tutoring Club of Saint Johns as part of an initiative to enhance the onboarding and ongoing development of both new and existing tutors.
Challenge:
Tutors faced challenges in motivating students to achieve their academic goals due to a lack of structured guidance on how to navigate difficult conversations effectively. Existing resources were limited, leaving tutors uncertain about how to approach and sustain motivating dialogues. This negatively impacted customer satisfaction and caused parent complaints.
Solution:
The training solution involved creating a blended learning approach. Key components included:
Foundational eLearning Module: Designed using Articulate Rise, this interactive, asynchronous course introduced the core concepts and practical skills needed for motivational interviewing. The module served as a precursor to further instructor-led training during the certification period.
Scenario-Based Simulations: Tutors practiced applying motivational interviewing techniques within realistic scenarios, receiving instant feedback on their decisions in a low-stress environment. This simulation was integrated into the LMS as part of the onboarding pathway.
Instructor-Led Follow-Up: During the first week of onboarding, tutors engaged in additional scenario-based practice with their trainer, refining active listening techniques and gaining personalized feedback.
Job Aids for Reinforcement: Each tutor station was equipped with a job aid detailing the OARS (Open Questions, Affirmations, Reflective Listening, Summarizing) framework. This tool provided practical prompts and sentence stems to support tutors in applying these techniques during real-time sessions.
Results and Impact:
Pilot testing demonstrated a significant improvement in tutors’ ability to engage in effective motivational conversations, leading to more positive and productive tutoring sessions. The revamped onboarding process reduced training time and contributed to better goal achievement for students, boosting overall customer satisfaction.
